This must be the place
and I think it
always has been...

but the doors
do not open here
any more

Dead-bolted shut
with extra large yales
eyes peer suspiciously
through half-closed blinds
the rainbow flag
has been ripped down
and green algae proliferates
under leaky pipes
where the street-cleaners
no longer remember to come
without danger money

a silent skinny grey alley cat
washes dirt from his paws
and it seems prudent
to cross the street
and keep walking

it is not safe
to linger
here
anymore
